Musical Background

Debra’s love for Gospel Music started as a child on a Sunday morning watching a show called, The Gospel Singing Jubilee Television Program aired from1960 -1980. A piano sat across the room from the television, so the coffee table sufficed as a little girl would “play the table and sing her heart out.” Coming from a family of musicians, Debra sang her first solo in church at the age of 8.

One of the most influential musicians was family friend,  Well know Singer-Songwriter Conrad Cook. He encouraged Debra to pursue her dreams of music and writing, resulting in numerous original songs written by her.

The blessings continued for Debra to record with some of the most prominent recording companies, all the while, working with some of the best in the music industry. in the late 80's and early 90's

Recording Career

Charles Johnson (Charles Johnson and The Revivers) produced her first album.

Anthony Burger produced and played piano on her second project with Horizon Music Group

Debra was voted ‘Christian Female Artist of the Year,’ by Airplay International, Nashville Tenn. in 1994-1995

In addition to hosting the well-known TV program, Come Share The Joy, Debra was honored to performed a song in the movie starring Theresa Russell, written by Penny Lobe, entitled "Moving Mountains" in 2014. In the movie, Debra sang "That’s What Love Is For", written by Bruce Carroll, as well as "All Heaven Stood Still", an original written by Debra. She reached charting success with songs that have remained familiar to this day: Lord, You’re My Strength, Don’t Lift The Anchor, and When He Said It Is Finished. The years from 1988-2004 were good ones.

In the studio recording the most beautiful song.

Tragedy Strikes

Then, it appeared that her music career would be halted, as Debra’s husband, suffering from Black Lung & Cancer, would become gravely ill. She put her music career aside to be by his side, the years quickly rolled away until Bob’s suffering ended on August 7, 2017.

For several years, Debra helped along side of her husband to help fulfill there pastoral duties. After his passing, the church board asked if Debra would stay on as their pastor. With little hesitation, Debra agreed, “I felt it was the right thing to do.”

In Debra's mind, she was thinking, how does one pick up, and begin again after so much time has passed? Simple really; you take it to Jesus.

Now, her music and personal calling as a singer-songwriter is back on track. She's releasing radio singles across the country and they're performing exceptionally well.  Debra hopes that her music will impact and inspire her listeners to grow closer to God.

Community Outreach Programs

Debra believes in giving back to the community. Just one of the ways is the outreach program, Misfit Missions, Inc., where they organize various initiatives such as food, clothing and hygiene drives, meeting the needs of people through this mission, the street ministry, and more. They strive to make a positive impact and spread joy beyond the walls of our church.  They also minister to people through the mission and street ministry.  Just like her song titled, "Let Me Take You To Jesus."

Ministry for Debra, does not end with music. She also served on the board of the women’s ministry founded by Angie Rice, called S.C.A.R.F.S (Serving Christ and Ready for Service), living out this call ministering in drug recovery homes and reaching out to the homeless.

Verily I say unto you, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Debra reminiscences, “I will never forget my first time on the street, feeding the homeless. I saw a lady holding a bowl of soup that had just been handed to her. She was carrying on a conversation with the several people in her head.  She looked up at me, as I asked her if she would like a sandwich, a sweet voice from inside her said, “Yes, please.” It was in that moment, I felt that I had placed a sandwich in her hand from the very hand of God!  I have never been the same. We are all one bad choice, one circumstance, from being in another’s shoes.”

Many people on the streets suffer from mental illness, we can feed them, clothe them and supply them with necessities, but most importantly, pray for them and just allow the Holy Spirit to love them through us.

Captivating song, "Let me take you to Jesus."

LUKE 14:23

And the lord said unto the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be FILLED.

Is Jesus Calling You?

Have you felt that tug in your heart that Jesus is calling out to you?  He loves you unconditionally and wants to save you right where you are!

It's as simple as asking Jesus for forgiveness and express to him that you have the desire to be saved. Great news, this can be done right where you are at now!

You may have heard of the word repentance In the Bible and wondered what that meant.  Repentance in the Bible implies that once forgiveness is sought, one should turn away from sin and strive to follow Jesus and the virtuous lifestyle he exemplifies in the Scriptures. Although we may occasionally falter,  we can always seek forgiveness anew and continue to persevere in our spiritual journey with the Lord.

The next step is to find a local church that adheres to Biblical teachings. Seeking out friends of fellow believers and prayer warriors is encouraged. Do inform your Pastor that you have just recently been saved and you wish to be baptized.

Immerse yourself in the inspiring praise and worship music at your local Church and receive the Pastor's anointed teachings from the Lord. It's an excellent path for growth and learning.

Set aside at least some time nightly to study a few Chapters in the Bible. Some suggest starting in the New Testament and then moving to the Old Testament.

Those who attend Church grow in the Lord much faster than those who don't.  The Bible emphasizes the importance of gathering together with fellow believers in Hebrews 10:25, which states: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” This verse encourages Christians to regularly come together with other believers, rather than isolating themselves or neglecting this vital aspect of their faith.

Engage in meaningful community outreach programs and connect with like-minded individuals who share the joy of following Jesus and service to others.  I hope this little guide helps you in your new journey with the Lord!
